Powering the Pace: A Look Inside the New P1R Racing Command Centre

Here at P1R Racing, the pursuit of immersion and lap time is relentless. Whether we’re battling for position in iRacing or hitting the perfect apex in EA’s F1 franchise, every millisecond and every pixel counts. In sim racing, your hardware can be just as crucial as your race craft. Stutters, low frame rates, or long loading times can shatter the illusion and compromise performance.

That’s why we decided it was time for a monumental upgrade. We’ve built a new PC from the ground up, designed with one goal in mind: to deliver the ultimate, no-compromise (sort of) sim racing experience for today’s most demanding titles and for whatever the future holds.

Let’s pop the side panel off and take a look under the hood.

The Nerve Centre: CPU and Motherboard

At the heart of any gaming PC is its processor, and for sim racing, there’s currently one undisputed king: the AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D. The “X3D” is the magic ingredient here. Thanks to AMD’s 3D V-Cache technology, this CPU has a massive amount of high-speed cache stacked directly on the chip. For physics-heavy and data-rich simulations like ours, this means unparalleled smoothness and consistently high frame rates, even with a full grid of cars.

This powerhouse CPU sits in an ASUS TUF Gaming B650-E WIFI motherboard. We chose this board for its rock-solid stability, robust power delivery to keep the 7800X3D boosted, and future-proof features like PCIe 5.0 support. The built-in WiFi 6E is just the cherry on top, ensuring a low-latency connection when a wired option isn’t available.

Memory, Storage, and Blistering Speed

To keep the 7800X3D fed with data, we’ve installed 32GB of Corsair Vengeance DDR5 RAM running at 5600MHz. This is the new sweet spot for high-end gaming, providing more than enough headroom to run sims, Discord, telemetry apps, and streaming software all at once without breaking a sweat.

And what about loading times? They’re a thing of the past. The WD Black SN770 2TB NVMe SSD is our new home for our OS and entire sim library. The Gen4 speeds mean we’re loaded into the server and waiting on the grid while others are still on the loading screen.

The Graphics Powerhouse

This is where we’ve planned ahead. The entire system has been built to be the perfect platform for the next generation of graphics. We were eagerly awaiting NVIDIA’s launch and had our sights set on the RTX 5070. This build has the power, bandwidth, and cooling to handle it, ensuring we can crank every setting to ultra for years to come.

Keeping It Cool and Looking the Part

All this performance generates heat, and managing it is crucial for sustained performance during long endurance races.

The entire build is housed in the stunning Corsair 4000D RS Frame case. Its high-airflow front panel and smart layout make it a dream to build in and even better at keeping components cool. To tame the beastly CPU, we’ve mounted a Corsair Nautilus 360 RS AIO Liquid Cooler to the front. This setup ensures the 7800X3D stays frosty, maintaining its maximum boost clocks session after session.

And of course… what’s a new build without some personality? We’ve got plenty of RGB, perfectly synchronised. We all know that extra lighting adds at least 10 horsepower and shaves a tenth off your lap times, right?
